Basta turismo, basta selvaggi.

Tale premier tale turista.

Siamo turisti maleducati e selvaggi.

In Japan, they have started cancelling events, religious ceremonies, and traditional festivals. They call them off without warning, reschedule them for impossible times, or make them "private-access only" to keep tourists out.

What??? —you might ask, you western capitalists belonging to nations that do everything to sell themselves to global tourism, like prostitutes hustling for the drug — How can these crazy people be turning tourists away? Well, yes, they do it because rampant, uncontrolled tourism is rapidly destroying their homeland. Japan is a land accustomed to kindness and courtesy—to quiet queues for tickets and hushed voices on the subway—and when the Japanese visit other people's monuments, they tread softly inside churches, palaces, and temples. That is why they were shocked by the hordes of Westerners who suddenly "discovered" Kyoto, Nagasaki, and Sapporo, invading them while shouting and braying, taking selfies while hanging off sacred symbols, and guzzling Cokes while sitting on the belly of a sacred Buddha.

No more tourism, no more savages. If you don't know how to behave, you will get absolutely NOTHING  from Japan.

In a world where the leaders of almost every nation shout arrogantly on TV, rule with insolence, and decide to seize—or actually steal—other people's stuffs with savage madness, populations are slowly getting used to the "New Mafia World Order"... and they, too, are starting to behave like stray dogs.
Like prime minister, like tourist.
This summer, in particular, Italian tourists have shamefully tarnished their country's image wherever they went. No more "the land of Michelangelo and Raphael"... from now on, they’ll be remembered as the kids who insulted a Thai woman on a train, as the four morons who trashed an apartment in Malta simply because someone asked them not to shout at 3 a.m., as the idiots who—right there, in Japan—defaced a wooden temple statue with obscene drawings.

Modern tourists are rude, uncivilized.

I feel sorry for my homeland and my city; they strive to attract ever-more tourists to a land that is already shamelessly violated every single day. The unruly crowds driven by a "selfie-at-all-costs" mentality aren't "tourism"... they are the mafia, they are locusts, they are piranhas devouring everything and leaving even the cleanup of the scraps to locals!

Perhaps the time has come for us, too, to curb these ill-mannered crowds. As the saying goes: quality over quantity. It doesn't matter if we bring in a little less money—let our churches, national parks, and public squares be respected!
