IO SONO SAKURA I'm Sakura

Oggi ho visto un video troppo carino. 😊

😊😊😊

Today I watched a really cute video from a lovely mixed couple.
She is Italian and he is Japanese, they live in Osaka with their 4-year-old daughter... Sakura. The parents tested the little girl so to see if she feels more Italian or Japanese. They asked her to choose between different things:  pizza or sushi, Pinocchio or Goku, the church of the small town (where her Italian grandparents live) or the Shinto temple down the street, rice cake or granita...? From time to time, the little girl chose without hesitation, depending on her taste.

Finally, the father asked a (seemingly) simple question, but perhaps more complicated than the others. ARE YOU ITALIAN OR JAPANESE?
It wasn't about choosing "things" anymore, now; it was about her "being", her deepest soul. How do you answer such an intimate question? How do you split a soul in two just to make a single choice that erases the other half?
Well, this 4-year-old little girl gave an incredibly wise and adult answer:
I AM SAKURA!

Belonging to two or more worlds isn't a choice to make, it's not a problem to solve.
Instead, it's a great enrichment. It means having a very open "self".
I saw this it in my cousins, both those born in the USA with their dual Italian and American souls, and those born in Udine, so proud of being both North Italians and Sicilians.

I see it in myself, too, because I'm the daughter of a mother from Messina and a father from Catania, and if you think that's nonsense... maybe you don't know Sicily very well: because Sicily is a planet, a true universe unto itself! The characteristics of the Messina native—easy-going, peaceful, slow, and gentle—have nothing in common with the impetuosity, dynamism, and "noisy" nature of the Catania native. Even the dialects they speak are different, both on this side of the River Alcantara border and on the other! And if, being born Sicilian, you already feel like you have a double soul (Italian and Sicilian), or, as in my case, even a triple one (Italian, Messinese and Catanese), if you grow up studying in an international school and have spoken English since you were 6... you also feel a little British. And you open a little piece of your soul to Shakespeare, fish and chips, the royal family!
Oh, what a mess!
A beautiful mess, though!
A mess that reminds hundreds of puzzle pieces that together form a single picture. And that picture is you, it's me, it's a person...
........it's Sakura.
